Some geologists go into the field with only a Bachelor's of Science degree. It is a four-year degree, and on average, public in-state tuition in the U.S. costs around 9,000 dollars annually. Private tuition is around 30,000 dollars per year.

What if there was no mandatory attendance law?

Education would take a step backwards in most countries. Literacy and education are the biggest indicator of social standing. Removal of the mandatory education requirements would increase the gap between the social classes. Much of the existing education systems would collapse. Taxes would no longer be put toward education. Cost of private schools would go up and public schools would collapse. Lack of standardization would make it difficult to validate the education and knowledge levels of those applying for jobs and further education.
