They can and do. With improved nutrician, vet care, ect. horses are living much longer than they used to. The oldest horse was pony who was at the time 56 years old.
Twenty five years would be typical. Horse's teeth wear out and I have seen horses improve after looking very old just by giving them dentures. The oldest horses get to be 50 years old.
