What has happened to kcet channel 8 la?

KCET 28 in Los Angeles, Ca has now become an independent television station and is no longer affiliated with PBS. Practically all PBS shows from Barney to NOVA to Sesame Street are no longer shown on channel 28. It is truly a shame that the two organizations have split after 40 years of service. It is a sign of the times. Programming on the post-PBS KCET will be a mixture of documentaries, life style shows, and more material from BBC, NHK, Canada, etc. KOCE 50 from Huntington Beach, Ca has recently re-branded as "PBS SoCal" as the flagship PBS outlet in the Los Angeles metro area. A huge honor for the once small station, it will now be the main PBS station in town reaching up to Santa Barbara for the very first time. PBS shows once shown on KCET have moved to KOCE such as Tavis Smiley (once a KCET produced show, now moved to WNET). KOCE also will help distribute shows on to the area's two other PBS outlets KVCR 24 from San Bernardino and LAUSD's KLCS 58 from Los Angeles. Charlie Rose and the Nightly Business Report have moved to KVCR in the Los Angeles area.
