In general, there are two lunar eclipses and two solar eclipses each year. On average, about half are total and half are partial, so you can expect, over a span of years, to see one total lunar eclipse every other year.

There are sometimes cycles of eclipses. In 2014-2015, there will be four sequential total lunar eclipses, with no partial eclipses in between; this cycle is called a "tetrad" and it isn't all that unusual. There will be eight such tetrads in the 21st century; this will be the second tetrad of the century.
