You should have software to automatically check for updates. You can control when the updates are installed and added to your system.
I would recommend Avira. It updates often and it catches viruses the way a program you would pay for does. I find that it even has caught viruses that Mcafee couldnt find for some reason. It also has a quick and full scan like most high priced anti virus programs. vario
