Every week or every other week, depending on the size of the tank and the number of fish in it. The smaller the tank, and the more fish in it, the more often it will need cleaning.

∙ 11y agoThis depends on the fish that you have in the tank. Typically, all fish tanks that are not over-stocked should have weekly maintenance which includes a water change of at least 50%.
If you have your tank over-stocked, then you may need to do 2 water changes per week.
Make sure that you have a test kit and you monitor the ammonia, nitrites and nitrates which should be 0, 0 & less than 10 respectively.

∙ 14y agoIf a fish tank is set up correctly in the first place, all it should need is a weekly (service) part water change (about 50%) during which the base/substrate is syphoned off and most of the rubbish is removed. The tank should not NEED cleaning out for several years.

∙ 13y agoYou should look into the nitrogen cycle, until your tank is fully cycled, you should change half of the water every day for up to two months. If you do not inform yourself on the nitrogen cycle, how it works, and how to monitor it, your fish will most definitely die before the end of next month. Not Long. These different species of fish need totally different water temperatures and so should never be kept together. The Algea eater is a tropical fish and should never go below 70F. The goldfish are cold water fish and should be kept at around 55F to 65F. Applying the basic rule of all aquarists " 1 inch of fish needs a minimum of 1 gallon of water " you will see that the tank is far too small to accomodate even one goldfish properly so the life span of the goldfish depends on how often you change their water and how good the filter is.
