An annular solar eclipse occurs when the moon is at apogee, which is the farthest point from Earth in its elliptical orbit, making it appear smaller and unable to fully cover the sun. This results in a ring of sunlight called the "ring of fire" that is visible around the moon during the eclipse.

An annular eclipse occurs when the Sun and Moon are perfectly aligned, but the apparent size of the Moon is smaller, creating a ring of sunlight around the Moon. For example, "We traveled to witness the annular eclipse, where the Moon appeared as a ring of fire in the sky."
You know because during a solar eclipse, at least part of the sun is covered by the moon, and seems to disappear as seen from your location. The sun may appear as anything from a fat cashew ... only a small part of it missing ... to a black disk surrounded by a ring of fire.
A red Moon ring can indicate atmospheric conditions that scatter light, causing the moon to appear red. This effect is often seen during a lunar eclipse or when there are particles like dust or pollution in the air.
This type of eclipse is called an "annular eclipse" and the ring is an "annulus".
The ring is the location of subduction zones
The Ring of Fire is also known as the Pacific Ring of Fire. The yellow line is the location of the Ring of Fire. The Ring of Fire is bascically where the Earth's tectonic plates have spread apart and cracked, allowing warm lava to rise and causing many earthquakes and volcanoes. Also, the plates here often shift and that is why there are often tsunamis. Tsunamis are caused underwater by onshore earthquakes that are very powerful.
The next solar eclipse visible in Ohio will occur on October 14, 2023. It will be an annular solar eclipse, where the moon covers the center of the sun, creating a ring of fire effect.

There are more active volcanoes in the ring of fire because the ring of fire has the most moving plates. When plates move they cause volcanic eruptions. Places farther away or not in the ring of fire will not erupt as often or will only erupt once before extinction.
