You can't change the fuel filter. Since 2004, the fuel filter on all GM trucks is part of the fuel pump module and located in the fuel tank. You drive it until the pump fails, then replace the whole module. Bad design in my opinion, but Ford and others use the same method.

the fuel filter has been changed.
it is recommended that the fuel filter be changed every 15000 miles or 12 months, but if you always drive on empty, you might want to change it more often.
