If the rabbit is your pet, you should have contact with it every day so that it gets used to you and knows that you are safe to be around.

It's best to hold the rabbit a little bit every day so that if you ever need to handle it for other reasons, such as getting it from one place to another or examining it, it will be used to your touch. Plus it's fun and relaxing for both you and the rabbit! Just make sure you are picking it up properly with both hands gently around the ribcage, never squeezing or around the stomach, legs, head, or neck. When you hold it, make sure its butt and/or back legs are supported or else it will panic. Holding it close to your body also generally helps keep the rabbit calmer.

This is a brief excerpt from the previous answer: "i have a pet rabbit and through experience you shouldn`t try to pick it up ... even if you do try picking it up it will be really scared it might scratch you.. i tried that once.. you dont wanna know."

This really isn't the best answer. The owner said her rabbit scratched her when she tried to pick it up, and so gave up. Some rabbits may do that the first time you try to pick them up. Just make sure you don't startle your rabbit by making slow, easy movements. Approach it gently or let it approach you, then gently pick it up. Don't grab it and yank it toward you.

Also possibly try giving it treats before you pick it up and after if it doesn't struggle. That way it will start associated being picked up with treats and will be more willing.

Some owners like to have their rabbit out and running around or on their lap all the time, and some don't. Both are fine. Just keep in mind that petting and holding are the best ways to establish a connection of trust between pet and owner.

You should handle it as necessary but then give it space to settle in and get used to it's new surroundings. Some peace and quiet for a few days might be in order. Then gradually start getting the rabbit used to you.

Should you handle your rabbit if she pregnant?

No, only if absolutely necessary. Her stomach will be very sensitive so she will be very aggressive if you try to touch it or go anywhere near it. A female rabbit is NOT THAT sensitive . She can be moved to a larger cage, she can be groomed. She can be palpated to see if she is pregnant.

How often should children hold rabbits?

Young children should never hold rabbits. They can sit beside the rabbit and pet it gently, if they like.Older, responsible children may hold rabbits once they have been shown how by a knowledgeable adult. Most rabbits don't like being picked up or handled. If they don't like it, don't do it. However, sometimes it is necessary to handle a rabbit (to protect it from harm, or to administer first aid): if so, be careful! If a rabbit panics and struggles it can easily harm itself (for example, it can break its own back by kicking hard into thin air; it can also easily suffer fractures from being dropped; etc.).A rabbit should never be picked up by the ears, or just by the scruff of the neck. A rabbit's hind legs should always be well supported.

Who can care for your rabbit when you are away?

You can have a relative or friend take care of your rabbit. Some pet stores offer animal boarding services, so they could take care of it. Make sure you write a list of how to care for your rabbit to give to the person who will take care of it. Here are some things you should list: * How much hay to feed it * How many fruits or vegetables each day * What kind of veggies or fruits * How many pellets you feed it * How often to clean the bedding * How often(if needed) they should brush the rabbit * How much bedding to put in * How much exercise the rabbit needs each day * Where you exercise your rabbit
