I would never steam clean my carpet, because I'm in the business of dry cleaning carpet and have done that for over 30 years. The hardest thing to do is to find someone that knows how to properly dry clean carpet and if you can, I would recommend twice a year. Steam cleaning leaves your carpet too wet... too long. But cleaning twice a year with a germicidal added, helps with the germs
