This is the 4th year with our tangerine tree and still no fruit. Hopefully this year or next! It started as a tiny baby and is now 3-4 feet tall. Anyone know how to tell when the fruit is about to show up? Does the plant change at all?

No, tangerine trees are self-pollinating and do not require another tree for fruit production. However, having multiple trees nearby can potentially increase the yield and quality of the fruits.
To grow a tangerine tree from the seed you would first need the seeds from the fruit. After you have obtained the seeds.Put them in a cup. After you had done that pour clean drinking water in the cup.Change the water 2 times a day and keep it there for 1-2 weeks. To see signs of sprout is when u see the seed crack open.To a white small piece no that small. You could plant it now or you cant wait for it a bit then plant it.To plant it you need black soil. put half pot full of black soil. Then put seed in and other half. The seed will slowling grow in a year but it takes up to 3 years for full grown tree.Always keep it in sunlight and hot weather if it is cold outside you should bring it in on my opinion. Also change the soil about 4 times a year incase if it salts up.
If you can, remove the tree from the stand and cut 1" off the trunk, exposing new wood to the water source. Then, return the tree to the water source and let it rehydrate. You were watering it, right? Also, if it is a plastic tree, it will always be dry. Use some furnature polish sprayed onto a cotton rag to wipe down the tree and remove dust. This will give it a fresh 'lively' look.
Yes, tree bark can absorb water to some extent to help transport nutrients and water throughout the tree. However, bark is not as efficient in water absorption as other parts of the tree such as the roots or inner xylem tissue.

The scientific name of a tangerine tree is Citrus reticulata.
The day you plant it, you should water it daily for 2 weeks, then after that, you should water it every 3 days for 3-10 weeks. After about 10 weeks from planting, you should water the tree weekly.
