I had a positive tb skin test before. I can now only have a chest x-ray done. My employer wants a tb test done yearly. Is this safe for a chest x-ray? Or is it every three years that I am allowed to have a chest x-ray done.
Every 2 years a repeated chest x-ray should be done
I work at a school and asked the nurse how often I need to get an x-ray and she informed me that it is every 5 years.
Of course, get one if you present symptoms of TB.
two years
Then to confirm Tuberculosis, chest x-ray will be taken.
a chest x-ray
it means you were exposed to the virus, you need to have a chest x-ray to confirm a TB test. If the virus is active a sputum sample is needed to confirm a diagnosis of TB
How often you get a chest x-ray is dependent on signs and symptoms following a positive PPD read. If no signs and symptoms are present once every ten years is standard. They also have the ability now to have blood drawn and tested yearly for Healthcare workers as opposed to chest x-rays. If signs and symptoms are present then your family Dr will do labs along with chest x-ray.
Once someone tests positive for the PPD skin test, that person will (almost)always remain positive for the rest of their life. Then, there is no sense in placing a PPD skin test again, as you already know that it will be positive. The reason for doing the chest x-ray instead is to make sure that there is no evidence of active tuberculosis disease in the lungs. Not all patients with a "positive PPD" will have an active lung disease from TB, which can be contagious.
If you had a vaccination where a scar was left on your arm you were probably injected TB and it would be fine, but you cannot be sure until you go back a get a chest x-ray to ensure that everything is okay
A chest x-ray cannot diagnose bronchitis. A chest x-ray may show pneumonia, but one can have pneumonia with a normal chest x-ray.
a Tb tine test. Which is a sub Q shot of ppd that within 48 hours needs to be checked for a reaction. If there is no reaction your good. If there is a positive reaction it is followed up by a chest x-ray and then medicine.
It is often the first test performed when a problem with lung function is suspected. Spirometry may also be suggested by an abnormal x ray, arterial blood gas analysis, or other diagnostic pulmonary test result.
..No
blood gas analysis, chest x-ray and lung function test
No, not necessary. Positive TB test just mean your immune system has been exposed to the TB antigen. This could be from false positive (no test is perfect), allergy, recent BCG vaccine (unlikely in the US) or you really were exposed to the bacteria.Just because you're exposed to the bacteria also does not mean you will get the disease; your immune system is an excellent line of defense.Anyhow, TB can actually affect many organs in your body, but the most concerning one is pulmonary because it's the most common and most easily pass from one person to another. This is why chest x-ray is the next screening test for people with positive TB skin test. However, people with active TB usually have other symptoms like fever, chills, night sweats, weight loss, cough, shortness of breath, cough up blood, ect.Current recommendation is that you should take INH (antibiotic) for 9 months if you have positive TB skin test. This is because you may carry the TB bacteria within your body somewhere even though they are not causing any active disease. Chest x-ray will be your screening test from then on because you will be positive again with future TB skin test.
