Hypochondria can develop early in life, even in childhood but is seen in people after they have suffered physical or sexual abuse. It is not diagnosed until people are older though, due to the fact that a patient is able to set up their own appointments and attend them without supervision. Most diagnosis of this condition occurs around the age of 20.
