It depends on the type of bird. Some birds live to 40 or 50 or more but many live just a few years.

Psychology dictates to gently expose her to birds. Buy her a stuffed bird and let her discover that it's not going to hurt her. Show her that birds are harmless creatures (for the most part, don't mess with birds of prey) that don't mean her any harm. With time and familiarity, she will grow out of her phobia.
