a guinea pig is to old to have babies around 1-1 1/2 years old but if the sow alredy had babies she can give birth again after 1 1/2 years give the sow 2 months after the birth to try again. separate the boy babies from the mom at 4 weeks old. don't let the father be around the sow!! because after birth he could get her pregnant again and sow WILL die with the babies!!!! :(
pregnant pig:
I've heard many times that after 8 months old it can be VERY dangerous for the mother to give birth, especially if it's her first time. But never mate them before 5 months old, the best time (for the first) would be 5-8 months old. But as you may already know, you should never mate them because no matter how old they are it can be dangerous for the mother. Good luck.
She isn't necessarily too old to conceive, but it is more dangerous for her if she hasn't given birth before. Guinea pigs' pelvises aren't fused together until they are about a year old. Generally, the best time for mating would be before then. If your guinea pig conceives at two, she becomes at risk for complications during birth due to her pelvis being too small for the babies to come out.
2 months, but some can be fertile sooner. It is also worth noting that a female guinea pigs pelvic bones will fuse after 8 months or so if if has had no young, meaning that it can still get pregnant but will have difficulty giving birth, unless it has had a previous litter.
yes. I had a 2 year old guinea pig and a 6 month old and the were great together.
The guinea pig can start eating solid food at 2 days old.
no because a female guinea pig needs to be more than 6 months to fall pregnant Yes, the female guinea pig can become pregnant at 2 months so it is possible.
male g/pigs can breed as soon as they are 4 weeks old but its good to wait until they are 6-7weeks before starting. Same with females they can breed as soon as they are 5-6weeks old but again wait until they are 7-8weeks old before breeding with them.
yes
your female guinea pig should at least be 3 to 4 months and no after 12 months and maybe after 12 months depending if her bones have fused upand the male guinea pig should at least be 3 or 4 months or whenever the male takes interest in the other sex
Well, females become mature at 4 weeks old, BUT THIS IS NOT A SAFE TIME TO BREED! You should probably breed it at, at least 4 to 5 months. If you breed it at 8 to 10 months than it can kill mother and babies, because the pelvic bones begin to fuse
You have to times the guinea pigs human years age by 16, like you times a dogs human years age by 7. For example if the guinea pig is 2 in human years then he will be 32 in guinea pig years.
Female guinea pigs sexually mature very early. They can actually begin to reproduce at 3 to 4 weeks of age. Pregnancy is especially hard on a guinea pig, but even more so at this age. It is usually recommended that you do not allow your guinea pig to breed, but if you are going to, wait until they are at least 7 months of age to allow them in with a male.
All guinea pigs can bite, at any age. If you socalize your guinea pig and treat him well, chances are he will choose not to bite.
If your guinea pig is quite old [ 2+yrs] it will just be of old age as my guinea pig squeak is 3 and has had it for 1 year and is fine but if your guinea pig is young id take it to the vets as it may have an eye infection Jacinta Farrell age 11
