You have to be at least 4 years old. Most join at 5, but at least 4 years of age is acceptable.
Kindergarten is for 5 year old children, PK is Prekindergarten for 4 year old children, PPK is Pre-prekindergarten for 3 year old children. Back in my youth, we used to call it nursery school.
