Well I don't think it matters because if you are into reading you can't take that away. If you think your son or daughter are too young , well don't let them. If there is violence in the book, I think they should be 12+.

It's best to read the "Circle Trilogy" (Black, Red, White) first, then the "Lost Books" (Chosen, Infidel, Chaos, and Renegade) second. I would add that you can start anywhere you choose, really. It's like Star Wars -- do you start with IV, V, VI? Or do you start with I, II, III? Most agree, start with the first ones made, and then end it up with the last three. With the Circile Trilogy, ensure you do read BLACK, RED, and WHITE in order. It might be fun to start with SINNER first (a PARADISE NOVEL, connected to the trilogy) and go SAINT and SHOWDOWN, and then read the Trilogy, and then read GREEN. And there...you can read GREEN first if you choose. It's a great start to a wonderful journey (and will answer many questions). So there you have it!
