I have three pregnant rats. They are about 8 months old and 3-4 weeks along. They got pregnant as soon as we got the male and he was much young. I'm sure they could have gotten pregnant a lot younger. I know this wasn't a straight forward answer but this is my first experience allowing them to breed. They are great pets...I love them.

∙ 15y agoIt is only recommended to breed a female rat between 4 and 8 months old. No more than 3 litters in her lifetime. http://www.rmca.org/Articles/qna3_00.htm I'm not sure age matters too much for males. But I'm pretty sure they can become infertile if not used to breed at an early age.

∙ 15y agoRat's are able to reproduce at only 6 weeks, but it is not recommended as the rat is still growing. It is recommended that you breed your rat's when the doe is younger than 1 year, but older than 4 months.
