Palpatine was born 82 years before "A New Hope" took place and (the redeemed) Anakin killed Palpatine in "Return of the Jedi" (which took place 4 years after "A New Hope"). So Palpatine was in his late 60's by the time of the Clone Wars and was 86 years old when he died.
