Sofia (Sofija, Sofiya) is one of the oldest towns. Its existence is traced even 5000 years BC. It became the capital of Bulgaria after Otoman rule was demolished. On 20th Oct, 1878 temp. capital from Plovdiv was been shifted to Sofia. Official birth day of the town is 4th April, 1879.
София е една от най-древните европейски столици. Нейната история може да се проследи до времето на неолита. Следи от няколко неолитни селища са открити на нейна територия (около днешния Дворец, както и в днешния квартал Слатина), които датират от 5000 г.пр.н.е.
На 20 октомври 1878 година от Пловдив в София се премества седалището на Временното руско управление, а на 3 април (22 март 1879 стар стил) година по предложение на Марин Дринов Учредителното събрание избира София за столица на Княжество България (4 април е обявен за празник на София).
