The oldest man of verified age as of January 2018 was Masazo Nonaka of Japan (born July 25, 1905).
He succeeded Francisco Núñez Olivera of Spain (1904-2018) and Yisrael Kristal of Israel, who both died at the age of 113 years old.
There are more than a dozen living Japanese women who are older than Nonaka, by official documentation. The oldest is Chiyo Miyako of Japan (born May 2, 1901 - 116 years old).

Going with the same theme, the bible records Methuselah as being the man that lived the longest at 969 years. Noah is recorded as being the grandson of Methuselah.

According to Indonesian records, Mbah Gotho was born in December, 1870, and is still living. The age of Mbah Gotho is yet to be verified, since it is possible that his birth record is actually that of an earlier relative - which, of course, does not suggest that Mbah Gotho is intentionally falsifying his age.
The Bible, on the other hand, says that Methuselah lived to the astonishing age of 969 years and then died the same year as Noah's Flood. Many of the ages in the Book of Genesis are based on numerology, using the number 17. So, Methuselah supposedly had his first son at the age of 187, which is 11 X 17, then died at the age of 969, which is 57 X 17.
