The Red Ryder No 111 model 40 was made in 7 variations from1940 to 1971. In 1972 it became the model 1938 and continued on through several more variations until the model we know today Each model had some distinct difference from the previous model. Wood stocks became plastic, Aluminum levers became plastic and etching became a decal and so on.
