The age of the universe is about 13.73 billion years +/- 120 million years from Big Bang to the present. Older texts might cite values ranging from 8 to 20 billion years, but recent astronomical data have made these estimates obsolete. Mathematical modeling and high-precision astronomical observations are in line with the currently offered figures. Certainly there will be other opinions, but they are not science-based ones.

The age of the universe is not known, because we don't know what happened "before" the cosmic inflation episode often called "The Big Bang". There are, of course, religious statements about the age of the universe that sharply differ from the scientifically determined value. Religious doctrines vary from 6000 years (for "Young Earth Creationism") to 155 trillion years (for some Hindu beliefs).

Their has been some studies and the estimate age of the universe is13.798 ± 0.037 billion years to the present. This was judged by thePlanckspace telescope. The Planck space telescope was launched in 2009 and to-date has been mapping the sky, examining so-called "light" fossils and sound echoes from the Big Bang by looking at background radiation in the cosmos. The spacecraft is expected to keep transmitting data until late 2013, when it runs out of cooling fluid.

The age of the universe is 13.8 billions years old.
