MSN's web-based Messenger software has been replaced by Windows Live Messenger, which is part of Microsoft's launch of its Windows Live online services.
Usually, if you did not have 'Skype' then the alternative would be 'Windows Live Messenger' if you have a web cam and a mic. then this should work out fine if you both use messenger and accept the invite.
