Your serial number indicates that your 16 gauge browning auto-5 shotgun was made in the year 1929.
I need to know the year and value of my light twelve gage semi auto shotgun.
Made in 1959 http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_value_of_a_Browning_Sweet_Sixteen
1924
Yes that is very likely because FN of belguim who made the browning auto-5 shotguns made these fine guns with 4 different levels of finish.each Grade I-IV was embellished with higher levels of engraving, wood, and game scenes.
You will have to provide the serial number and the model in order for any one to date it. Alternatively, go to Browning's web site and look it up under Customer Service.
The Browning Double Auto model was made from 1952 - 1971. The FN on your gun is not part of the serial number but stands for FN the manufacturer. Your serial number is 54831. There were no records kept by Browning between 1951 and 1959 as to the dates of mfg. The Double Auto had a serial code that started in 1960 with a letter prefix. Your gun was probably made in the mid 1950's.
