A Senator in the United States is elected to a term of six years and then can run again for office. Senators must be at least 30 years old to hold office.

Must be 30 years old, though we have had Senators elected at 29, but turned 30 at the swearing ceremony. But the US Constitution clearly states the age of 30. (No- to assume office one has to be thirty. Rush Holt (D., W.V) was elected at 29, and had to wait six months to take office.)

All Canadian citizens of voting age (18+) can run for public office as a Member of Parliament. Senators must be Canadian citizens 30-75 years old and own at least $4000 in the province they will represent, and have property worth at least $4000 more than their debts and liabilities in order to be appointed. Certain people are disqualified from running for office.
