This depends on the individual dog. Barking can start as young as 5 weeks, but some Shepherds are simply not vocal. Not barking is not a bad sign.

Good question, but I have the awnser to it. (:German Shepherds are loyal. They'd DIE for you.They are energetic as a puppy.They are lovable,they love to be the center of attention,they're really nice,extremely protective (my dog barks at amubulances, and cows =D )and they would always love you if you treat them nicely.
