It honestly depends on the child. Does the child have the majority of their teeth in the back of their mouth? If they don't, they aren't ready because they can't chew the popcorn. By age 2 or so, the average child has enough teeth to do the job. The next question is how does the child approach food? If the answer is tentative/cautious then it will probably be alright to introduce the food. If the child is a "fast gulper" or a "mouth stuffer" then the introduction of popcorn or like foods will require close supervision. Be calm and be ready. Most of the time the child will handle the situation. If they can't, that is where the parent comes in.
