Alfred P. Sloan is most widely known as the long-time President and Chairman of the General Motors Corporation. However, he did not "start" that business. In 1899, at the age of 24, he became president of Hyatt Roller Bearing, a company that made roller and ball bearings. In 1916, when he was 41, his company merged with United Motors Corporation which eventually became part of General Motors Corporation.
