Alfred P. Sloan is most widely known as the long-time President and Chairman of the General Motors Corporation. However, he did not "start" that business. In 1899, at the age of 24, he became president of Hyatt Roller Bearing, a company that made roller and ball bearings. In 1916, when he was 41, his company merged with United Motors Corporation which eventually became part of General Motors Corporation. He became Vice-President, then President (in 1923 at age 48), and finally Chairman of the Board (in 1937 at age 62) of GM
