∙ 14y agoGoldfish should live longer than 5 years; if they don't it's more than likely due to improper maintenance and poor living conditions.
Goldfish have the potential to live 15-20 years in an outdoor pond and 10-15 in an aquarium if they have proper care.
The record for the oldest goldfish is thought to be 43 years.
