Mary Queen of Scots never became Queen of England. Mary became Queen of Scotland after her father the King of Scotland died. Her great grandmother was Margaret Tudor, daughter of Henry VII of England, who had married the King of Scotland. Margarets brother Henry VIII was King of England. (The one with the six wives) His three children Edward, Mary, and Elizabeth each died childless. It was during Elizabeths long reign that Mary tried to become Queen of England, She was thrown off her throne in Scotland in favour of her infant son James. When Elizabeth Tudor had Mary imprisoned because of her attempts to overthrow her, Mary tried even harder but was later executed. As Elizabeth had no children when she died she passed the throne to her cousin James, King of Scotland who became King of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland which was later changed to Great Britain/ United Kingdom.
James VI of Scotland, son of Mary, Queen of Scots, became King James I of England upon the death of Elizabeth I because he was her closest living relative. James was related to Elizabeth through her aunt, Henry VIII's sister, Margaret Tudor. Margaret was James' great-great grandmother and as Elizabeth had no children, he was the next in line for the English throne. With James' succession, began the House of Stuart. Margaret Tudor, Henry VIII's sister, married James IV of Scotland who begat James V, who married Marie de Guise from France, and begat Mary, Queen of Scots, the mother of James VI, who eventually became James I of England. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_I_of_England#Proclaimed_King_of_England
Mary, Queen of Scots, also known as Mary I of Scotland, was the daughter of Mary of Guise and James V of Scotland. Her father died when she was 6 days old, on December 14, 1542.
37 (if you mean Mary I of England). 6 days (if you mean Mary I of Scotland). 42 (if you mean Mary I of Portugal).
Mary Queen of Scots was 6 days old when her father died and she was crowned 9 months later. As Mary was still a child when she inherited the throne, Scotland was ruled by regents until she became an adult. The french King Henry ll proposed to unite France to Scotland by marrying little Mary to his 3 year old son, the Dauphin François. With her marriage in place, 5 year old Mary was sent to France to spend the next 13 years.
Mary, Queen of Scotts was born in Scotland. When she was about 5 years old she was betrothed to King Francis I of France's son Francis and went to live in France with the royal family. She stayed there for about 12 years, was married to and widowed by Francis and shortly after his death when she was about 18 she went back to Scotland. Mary stayed in Scotland for several years after that. During the time she was in Scotland she married her first cousin Henry and had a son by him. About a year after the birth of her son James she left Scotland to ask her cousin Queen Elizabeth of England to shelter her, but spent the next 19 years in various English castles as a prisoner of her cousin.
Mary's father was King James V. James died when Mary was just 6 days old and technically she became queen regnant at that time. However because she was underage, a regency was declared and Scotland was actually ruled by a series regents (adults who ruled Scotland for her and in her name during her childhood). The last of these was Mary's mother, Mary of Guise, daughter of the Duke of Guise, one of the most powerful men in France. Mary of Guise effectively ruled Scotland from 1554 to her death in 1560. Queen Mary returned from France, where she had grown up, at the age of 18 in 1561 to personally rule Scotland.
