The actual "day" is not known ... and Mozart is dead! He was about 4 years old when he composed his first work.

Mozart was performing regularly in public by age 5. His sister, Nannerl, started almost as early. It is sometimes written that he was four when he started, but that is because his entrepreneurial father shaved a year off his age when presenting him.
During Wolfgang Mozart's childhood, Leopold (his father) 'cut down' his age as a publicity stunt to make him seem younger than he was so the exact age Mozart started playing is doubtful. Some claim he was three, others put it at six, either way it's way more impressive than what many people accomplish by the time they're sixty!
