Paul Revere was the subject of a poem that went "Listen my children and you shall hear of the midnight ride of Paul Revere." Revere rode his horse among the American homes to warn them that the British were coming. It had been agreed that he would advise, "one if by land, two if by sea." He was very effective in warning that the British were coming.

Paul Revere went on his midnight ride to warn his town that the British were attacking there new land because they didn't want to pay the taxes.
He is a famous messenger for the Patriots (not the football team, the US during the revolutionary war) and he went on his famous midnight ride saying the redcoats are coming.(British solders)
Samuel Prescott rode on the midnight ride, to warn the Patriots of the oncoming British, on orders to disarm the Patriots and capture some leaders of the Sons of Liberty, thus starting the Battle of Lexington and Concord. He rode with Paul Revere, and after Paul Revere was captured on his way to Concord, Samuel Prescott went on the warn Concord himself. He was one of the many horsemen on the Midnight Ride.

Paul Revere went along the Charles River from Boston to reach Charlestown reaching Lexington. From there, he trekked on a strict path to Concord to complete his Midnight Ride.
William Dawes rode with him on the night he went to warn Lexington and Concord that the British where coming.
he never went to jail, he was merely kept for the night of his ride, in a camp with British soldiers, who let him go in the morning.
