very little was known about Shakespeare, he never really was social or showed, talked about his works, its very unclear what age he had written the play.

AnswerSince Shakespeare's play were not published until later, it is hard to determine exactly when he wrote some of them. Romeo & Juliet was written somewhere between 1591 and 1595, which would have made Shakespeare somewhere between the ages of 27 and 31.

Shakespeare based his play on earlier stories of Romeo and Juliet some of which were written 100 years before Shakespeare was born.

Shakespeare was 33 when it was first published in 1597. Some scholars think that he may have actually written in in 1594 when he was 30.
He was about 31.

Romeo's age is not specified, but Juliet is unquestionably 13, but going on 14. That was why she was about to marry Paris - marriageable age in those days. One presumes Romeo is not much older, but around 16 years old.

I really hope that what you mean by this question is, "How old was Shakespeare when he wrote Romeo and Juliet?" because I don't want to think about other meanings of the word "came". Shakespeare wrote Romeo and Juliet when he was about 31.

You know, Shakespeare never truly tells us what age Romeo is. He is probably around fifteen, though. Juliet is like thirteen-fourteen.

How old is Julia in Shakespeare's classic?

Romeo's AgeIn short, Shakespeare never says. So everything else is speculation. Many will assume that he is also 13 (Juliet's age), but there's no specific reason to believe that. He's likely older, at least by a few years. Whether that makes him 16 or 20 is subject to much debate. In the original source material for Romeo and Juliet, by the way, Juliet was 18. Shakespeare changed it. So quotes about Romeo being too young yet to have a beard might even suggest that he was younger than her! And the next time somebody tries to explain an answer with "Well, back then...." stop them right there and ask "Back when? Back when Shakespeare wrote it, or back when the story is supposed to take place?" Because there's several hundred years difference.
