Lewis and Clark carried an air rifle on their journey across America and used it to impress the Indians as they traveled. Daisy started making BB guns at the turn of the last century around 1882. Daisy was in the windmill business and made cheap airguns as a gift to people who bought windmills. The air rifle became so popular that they went into the BB gun business. Today the air rifles made by Girandoni and carried by Lewis and Clark would be considered PCP (PreCharged Pneumatic) Class rifles.
