Painful! But it only lasts for the 30 seconds or so directly afterwards. I figured if I've given birth to 2 children, I can handle almost anything! The whole thing only took about 25 mins... and that included laughing time and wasn't rushed.
I had my first one yesterday, and I'm a little uncomfortable - feels like I've been sunburnt! Hopefully the redness will settle down soon - that's what I'm led to believe.
So, I'm not sure if it was a good call or not yet!
