Cold sores are actually a virus. Over 80% of the population suffers from this one sorry. Cold sores heal at different rates for everyone. The hardest part is to not pick at it or scratch it. I know this sounds funny but I heard from a Dr friend that instead of using expensive OTC or prescription medications try putting Antiperspirant on it as soon as you feel one coming up. It dries it out and helps keep it from itching. Good luck and sorry you have a sore. They seem to come up at the most opportune moments don't they. KC

∙ 11y agoCold sores can take any where from 1-4 weeks to heal. You can help speed up the healing process by applying cold sore creams regularly or by taking antiviral medication.
