Different religions arose due to different creators/prophets having different interpretations of the world around them and having different ideas of how we are to live our lives.

Religions are born with this question "Why are we here?"
Then men tell the most elaborate and out of the world story they can. Making the "unbelievable" to "believable enough".
Then they get a bunch of peoples to make them believe in that story.
it is mostly the time after the original perpetrator of the story died (so that no one can really know if it's true or false).
On those days, they are the talk of the town, the walking entertainment, source of motivation to live, and the only (seems to be) answer to the question (why are we here?) so it would be logical enough that people would be drawn to these and have faith in it because they want change in their lives and a place to belong.
Believe it or not, if one of us were fortunate enough to travel time and bring a perfume, talk to them some elaborate stories of our own creation, we'd be the center of their religion.
