Best Answer

Rockets are not needed in order to detect the planet Mars. Mars has been known

for as long as humans have had eyes and enough brain matter to be interested in

the night sky, and actually for some time before there were any rockets. Mars can

be seen somewhere in the sky for most of the days out of every two or three years.
