Further, in some of the banks (like ICICI) there is a 'Grid' which is a set of numbers on the back of your ATM card. The site will ask you to enter certain numbers from this 'Grid' and unless you enter the correct numbers it won't accept the transactions. Thus i feel it is quite safe.
However, there are instances when people have been cheated by internet banking.
