It should be safe to use all three at once. Make sure to thoroughly read the directions for all medications and if the dog suddenly shows signs of distress like vomiting or diarrhea then take immediately to a vet.

Why is immiticide for heartworm treatment not available for vets now?

The manufacturer is out to make even more money, because the have a monopoly on the only treatment. Supply and demand, and they control the supply... They should be ashamed of themselves praying on loving pet owners. There are several contributing factors, but profit is not one of them. A couple of them are: 1) There is a severe shortage of the necessary raw materials 2) There has been a significant increase in the number of heartworm positive dogs. This is mostly because the most widely used heartworm preventative for the past several years has been ivermectin, which is the active ingredient in Heartgard. Ivermectin has been used so often and so long that heartworms are becoming resistant; there have been several animals test positive that have been using that preventative. Negative dogs taking Heartgard should be switched to another preventative; the cost is basically the same on all of them. There is actually very little profit on Immiticide. It is expensive for the vet, and a lot ends up being wasted. It is available in only one size vial, but dosage varies by the dog's weight. Once the seal is broken, the drug has to be used or discarded within 48 hours.

When do new puppies have to be wormed?

Due to the high incidence of parasitism in puppies and the extended period of time that environmental contamination can lasts and the risk to humans from the most common GI parasites of puppies, the Center for Disease Control recommends that puppies be started on a preventative deworming program at 2 weeks of age and continued on it every 2 weeks until they are at least 8 weeks of age. Most heartworm preventatives are also labelled effective against hookworms and roundworms (the most common GI parasites in puppies) so once a puppy is started on heartworm preventative he will be getting a preventative deworming monthly.

What wormer works best for tapeworm control in dogs?

What is the difference between preventative and remedial computer maintenance?

Preventative, is action taken to stop something unwanted happening. Remedial, is action taken to fix a problem after it occurs. Installing user-control software software on a computer is preventative - it stops unauthorised people using the computer. Running regular disc diagnostic software is remedial - it repairs any detected problems.

Who can get tapeworm?

Anyone can get tapeworm. Those most at risk are people who:Have pets without regular flea control - the tapeworm Dipylidium caninum is transmitted through fleas. (see related link below for more information) The fleas then continue the cycle of tapeworm which, while not passing the tapeworm via fleas to their owners, can certainly pass on the tapeworm in other ways.Have pets which are permitted to lick their owners' hands and/or faces.Anyone who does not wash their hands regularly after contact with pets, and when preparing or eating food. The most common way to get tapeworm is by accidentally eating tapeworm eggs. This is why it is common to have tapeworm transmitted from pet to owner, especially when one touches one's mouth with contaminated fingers. Once you have tapeworm, the fact that the tapeworm reproduces inside one's body causes re-infection.Tapeworms live in the intestine and their mature segments, loaded with eggs, break off and pass out the animal. The route of entry would be ingestion. In the stomach the dried and hardened segment is digested, releasing thousands of eggs. Some of those eggs hatch and produce a new baby tapeworm that starts the process over in the new host. You are at risk if you consume unwashed vegetables that have been exposed to infested animal droppings. If you are going to fertilize your garden with manure, the manure should have been composted. The heat of composting can kill the eggs. Always wash your vegetables, especially roots such as onions, potatoes and carrots. It isn't likely that you are going to be at risk of a tapeworm from vegetables from the supermarket but, still, you don't know what the people were touching before they fondled the vegetables you just bought.

How would you know if your dog had parasites?

Two kinds of worms are the most common parasites: round worm and tapeworm. Only a blood test can tell if there are parasites in the blood. Tapeworm, the most common dog parasite, looks like a grain of rice in the feces, it might even move. Round worms are bigger and look like a White earthworm. Fleas carry tapeworm and spread it to dogs with their bite. So, control those fleas!

How often should you give flea and tick medication to your dog?

What type of worms does your dog have? Do you have him protected against heartworm? Tapeworm is only one type of worm that a dog can get. It is also transmittable to humans. Roundworm is another type of worm. Each require different types of treatment. With tapeworm you can see small white worms actually swimming in the feces of the animal. It can be stubborn to treat. If the dog has fleas no amount of de worming may help, as the dog gets these worms from ingesting the flea larvae and can keep getting it again and again until the fleas are gone. The best thing to do is call a vet on the phone atleast who will make the best recommendations. Ask around to find the least expensive place if you do take the pet in for observation. The vet can tell you how to treat over the counter next time perhaps. Also some pet store owners are pretty knowledgable about these things. Hold onto the receipt for the worm treatment so you can get your money back if you take your dog in for treatment. Luckily there are treatments for all these things available and once gone stay gone for good with proper precautions. Good luck! : ) Most medications are given once every 2-3 weeks.. until there is no evidence left of infestation: However, it really does depend on the type of worms, the severity of the infestation, and the type of medication being used.... You may be medicating your dog as often as once or twice a day or as little as once every 3 months..... Please consult your vet to determine what the best course of treatment would be for your individual situation..... NEVER self medicate an animal unless directed to do so by your vet....
