It is very serious. You need to get him/her to the doctor. If your regular doctor is unavailable you should consider the ER in you local hospital. A child with that high a fever could possibly go into convulsions.
It is not the degree of temperature alone which is important though any fever above 102 should be taken seriously. The general condition of the child, associated symptoms and other clinical findings all have to be taken into consideration.
It is high but babies run high temps. Make sure you are alternating Tylenol and Motrin every three hours (give tylenol 1st then 3 hours later motrin) This schedule works great. Make sure you know the proper dosage (dont want to give to much and to little wont work as well) even if your baby has only gained a couple pounds it could change their dose. Call your dr or go to a walk in clinic or E.R. especially if the baby is dehydrated (no or little wet diapers, dry mouth, no tears when crying, or a sunken in soft spot) or if the baby is lethargic or unresponsive, or if the baby has a siezure. If it is very late and the baby seems ok you can probably wait till the next day to bring the baby in. Most drs have an answering service or something after hours call them and ask about your situation. It wont hurt to go to the E.R. if your worried. Its scary when babies temp gets high but stay calm its usually ok and although it seems high babies temps run higher then adults. Also luke warm baths (check with your wrist) can really help cool a baby off. Just be careful because changing their temp to quickly can sometimes make them go into shock. Good luck.
Such high fever should generally not be taken lightly though it may not always be due to serious disease. Doctor should be consulted asap.
Very bad!
it is very very serious
That depends entirely on the cause of the fever. Usually it is from a virus and not serious at all. If signs of a more serious infection such as specific pains, altered mental status, rashes, difficulty breathing or dehydration are present then it should be evaluated.
