Do NOT pick up a pregnant rat! It would be VERY unsafe to the mother's and the babies' health if you do! Once you find out that the mother is pregnant you can not handle her until a week or more after she gives birth!

∙ 12y agoWhen picking up a rat, NEVER pick it up by its tail, this will hurt it and your rat will be very upset. when you have just got your rat, you need to let it trust you. so all you have to do is put one hand at the bottom of there cage and let it come onto you, so you dont fors it to do anything its not happy doing. then when its ready and knows you and your smell you can start to hold it like this. Put both hands under its belly and lift it to your chest or stomach. These are the safest places for your rat to be when your hold it. hope this helped<3
