You mean joule to be given in terms of fundamental units such as m, kg and s

Now joule is the scientist's name and it is the unit of work.

Work = force x displament

So J = N m

But N stands for newton another scientist's name.

But force = mass x acceleration

But acceleration = velocity / time and velocity = displacement / time

So acceleration has ms-2 as unit.

So N = kg x m s-2

Hence J = kg m2 s-2

The joule is an SI unit!

Why do you say that the joule is a derived unit of work?

In the Internation System of Units there are only seven base units of measurement and the joule is not one of them. It isn't needed as a unit because it can be derived from the base units. The joule is really just a 'convenience' because it's much easier to say or write than its definition which is kg.m2.sec-2. For more about this you might be interested in reading the wikipedia page about the Internation System of Units.

What unit of energy is used for Energy?

Joule. The Joule, named for James Prescott Joule, is the derived unit of energy in the International System of Units. It is the energy exerted by a force of one newton acting to move an object through a distance of one metre.

Is the Si unit power of joule?

The joule is the SI unit for energy.The unit of power is the watt (W), which is equal to one joule per second.Both the joule and the watt are derived units. (They are both surnames so their symbols are always capitalised: J and W.)For the pure physics geeks:a joule is m2 kg s-2 anda watt is m2 kg s-3
