Many small and special STOL aircraft can fly as slow as 40 mph.
they were slow not as fast as todayswell they were slow airplanes
Travelling would be very slow.
As the distance between the viewer and the plane increases the Plane appears to slow down.
They slow down gradually and lose height as they land
Slow, delicate, open cockpits, and cable controls.
Slow and gravitationally restricted.
Low and slow...great observation planes.
Because they can go straight up and down without having to have the distance to pick up speed or slow down like airplanes. Its the way they are built.
Before, airplanes were more mauneverable and faster, they were hard to control and very slow. Before the planes were powered by jet engines and turbofans, they were powered by propellers.
Compared to today they were very slow. Many could not go much faster than 100 mph. Most modern cars are capable of greater speeds than these 'planes.
Military airplanes with big, powerful jet engines and lots of things that go boom!
they control the plane to go left or right.if a planes ailerons don't work the plane cannot go left or right FOREVER. Not true. Airplanes can (I have done it myself as have many pilots) go left and right by use of the rudder alone but it will be a slow turn to a new heading and the plane will skid sideways during the turn. Also multi engined airplanes having one or two engines, for example, located on either side of the body can do a skid turn by applying more power on one side than on the other.
