Does every person have swollen cheeks after wisdom tooth removal?

Yes, but to different extents. It depends on the the patient and the condition of his or her teeth, as well as their body's internal healing systems. Level of swelling is also determined by the skill of the operating surgeon. Swelling is caused by a pooling of fluid in specific areas of the body. In the case of wisdom teeth removal, the body is producing a natural response to what it perceives as trauma. By saturating the area with fluids, the body is trying to allow the affected area to heal in a protected, nutrient-rich environment. So, it is plausible that a skilled surgeon operating on a patient with an easy case of impacted wisdom teeth would produce little swelling. On the other hand, an unskilled surgeon operating on someone with highly impacted teeth would probably cause a lot of swelling.

Third set of teeth?

Yes. It is possible. I was late getting my teeth as a child and had similar experiences with overcrowding of teeth and several lots of braces which did not work as a teenager after having two premolars removed from my upper jaw in 1977. Recently having severe toothache I found it to be my last wisdom tooth is coming. I am 46 years old and the two teeth pulled out 33 years ago are growing back! Three weeks ago I had two back teeth removed, one upper one lower and next month on the other side of my mouth one top and lower back teeth are coming out. This is to let the new teeth through. Apparently, I also have a smaller jaw which helped the overcrowding. I had my first wisdom tooth when I was 19. The second when I was 34 years old. The third one when I was 42 and the last one is coming through now. Teething late is also a sign of hyperdontia or a third set of teeth.

Is swelling a normal reaction to wisdom tooth extraction?

It's pretty individual depending on how many are removed, how impacted they might have been and what how much stess was put on the jaw when they were removed. I had all four taken out when I was 17 and I looked like a chipmunk for about three days. The pain was pretty minimal after a day or two and the swelling was completely down by the fourth day.

Why does the Navy require to have wisdom teeth removed?

I'm not exactly sure what the Navy policy is, but I do know that on board most ships and submarines, they do not have the resources, manpower, or time to properly extract wisdom teeth. Having them removed prior to deployment (which can last many months or even a year or more) can avoid a foreseeable problem, which under the right circumstances, could jeopardize a mission. Combat conditions are stressful enough without having the sometimes debilitating pain associated with erupting or impacted wisdom teeth. See if you have wisdom teeth when in a submarine which means youre underwater with water pressure which may cause eruption of youre wisdom teeth.Think about that if your teeth erupt when in the middle of a mission we dont want you moaning and groaning all the time.

I'm getting a tooth removed next week Not a molar it's a front tooth And I was wondering Does it hurt Thanks I'm 14-16 if that helps?

I'm 14, and i had four of my teeth toward the front removed last month. The dentist will give you anesthetic, so you wont actually feel the pain of the teeth being removed. The only thing you feel is the needle.

How many wisdom teech are in a normal human?

There are four wisdom teeth in a normal human being. Wisdom teeth are the very last four teeth that grow. They grow at the very end of the jaw - two upper and two lower. Wisdom teeth start appearing in the teens. Wisdom teeth can also appear towards the end of teenage. If there is no space in the jaw for the teeth to come out, then these are removed.

Which last four teeth are the last ones to grow in a persons mouth?

Wisdom teeth

Did anyone else get bruised around the jaw after getting their wisdom teeth out and if so what did you do for the pain and swelling?

Everyone gets a bruised jaw from wisdom teeth removal. Ibuprofen is the best thing to take. Redduces pain swelling and inflammation. If you cannot take ibuprofen take acetominophen (paracetamol in UK) It's not all that unusual to have swelling and pain after extractions, especially wisdom teeth. For swelling use an ice pack. For pain try ibuprofen or Aleve, or see your dentist for a prescripton for a narcotic pain med. They can call in Tylenol with codiene (not that strong) or they can hand write a prescription for oxycodone (Percocet) [can't call in], which is what I would insist on. It's YOUR mouth. I believe that the degree of pain and swelling is directly related to the experience and competence of the Dentist, so don't fall for "take two Tylenol, you'll be fine". I had ALL FOUR wisdom teeth out at once and had almost no swelling. Two Percocet and back to work that day. THAT'S a GOOD dentist. My brother had his out by some hack dentist in the Navy and his face was the size of a basketball for 3-4 days. THAT'S not a GOOD dentist. Bruising and swelling after having wisdom teeth removed is quite common, depending on the skill of your dentist. A good dentist will cause less bruising and swelling. I took panadol forte, which is okay, but you need to eat something when taking it, otherwise you will feel dizzy and may faint, unfortunately the last thing I felt like doing after having wisdom tooth surgery was eating. Ask your dentist, if you have a good one, they should brief you fully and provide post surgery advice and support. Use ice packs the day of the surgery and take the pain killers drungs that were prescribed by your dentist, preferably non-ŝteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Bruising and Swelling is not always dependant on the skill of the dentist. My brother and I went to the same one and I was much more swollen than him. This is because the tooth had grown into the jaw bone more so he had to drill mine out. This is very common.

How long does it take for the sore throat to go away after having your wisdom teeth extracted?

AnswerIf you wisdom teeth were way back, you might have a sore throat, because the healing is happening back there and the pain will last a few days to a week. But the sore throat can also be related to a cold that you are having at the same time.AnswerI was 30 years old (very healthy) and I didn't have a sore throat, with my wisdom teeth extraction, but did feel like I had the flu. My head, body, ears, and lymph nodes ached for 3 days afterward. Antibiotics, sleep, and a cold pack for exterior swelling/discomfort are *key*.
