Best Answer

Specific heat capacity is the amount of energy required to raise the temperature of one unit mass of a substance by one degree Kelvin.

Eg. The specific heat capacity of water is 4.18 joules per gram. So you need to transfer 4.18 joules of energy to one gram of water in order to raise it by one degree K

Temperature on the other hand is the average kinetic energy of the particles in a substance.

How is specific heat of a substance different from the heat capacity?

Imagine 1 kg of water. This has a heat capacity. Now if you have 1000kg of water the heat capacity is obviously greater. The Specific Heat Capacity is a material constant. It specifies a set quantity. For water it is 4.184 kiloJoules per kilogram per Kelvin.
