There has not been very much research on this till quite recently, and findings are tentative.
The Roman Catholic church did not change (much) during the Nazi period. Attempts to control the Evangelical churches and to bully them into becoming part of the "German Christian Movement" (a racial, Nazi version of "Christianity") were not that successful and provoked resistance in the form of the "Confessiong Church". However, the Nazi regime found most Protestants fairly compliant.

IN the 1800's more immigrants from Ireland and Germany were coming to America. Ireland because of the potatoe famine and Germany because of failed attempts of over-throwing a dictator. More inventions like the telegraph, Morse code, reaper, and new ships made communicating and such faster.
