Solar prominences are gouts of charged particles carried from the surface of the sun into space.
These particles are carried by magnetic fields, but of course the surface of the Sun is too hot for any magnetic material (>6 000oC).
The source of the magnetic field in turn is caused by huge electrical currents of charged particles near the Sun's surface.
They both implode, explode and originate from the same surface.. a sunspot

Sunspot number correlates with solar activity and can affect phenomena like solar flares and coronal mass ejections, but the solar wind speed is more influenced by other factors like the temperature and density of the solar wind source regions.
