The standard proportions when drawing the adult human figure is seven (7) heads high. The height of the head from chin to crown is one seventh of the height of a normal adult human. This is a generalization, but works well as a baseline.

Just for a bit more proportional information, the distance from tip of longest finger to the tip of the longest finger of the other hand (when stretched out horizontally at shoulder height is the same as the height of the figure (7 heads).

When drawing children the proportions are much different.

Also remember, it is the setting you put your figures into that determine the perceived height of the figure.

If you place your figure next to a tree and they are near the same height, you person appears very tall...

If you place your figure next to a tulip and they are near the same height, the figure appears very small.
